Beverage Service Set Preview

Description

Well, I'm still doing my best to keep busy. The only good news is that the set of props I've been working on is very nearly complete. So I decided to create a quick preview to show everyone what I've got. So please, everyone, give me some feedback on the look of everything. Let me know what you think.

At this point, my set consists of three props; a drinking glass with a straw, a small glass, a pitcher, a coaster, a coaster holder, and a tray. The glasses and pitcher come complete with level morphs, tilt morphs, and melt morphs for the ice. The ice is fully rigged so it can be positioned however you want, and the straw on the drinking glass is also rigged so it can bend like the real thing. The coaster holder is rigged so the lid can come off and be positioned in any way, and as you can see, the tray has folding legs.

Now, as for the look of these items, I decided to test them using a full combination of direct, full light, specular light, and UberEnvironment Light. I figured that if there were any cosmetic flaws in any of these items, that combination would ferret them out. And here they are after being fully rendered in 3Delight. So what do you think?

In the meantime, I'm getting some help with beta-testing each of these items. So with any luck, I should have them ready for sale some time in the near future. And goodness knows, I could use the income.

So, modeling wise the fact that it has so many features is extremely useful.

However, if this is what the glass looks like at full render, you're not going to inspire many sales unless people can modify the textures themselves.

The glass, the liquid, and the textures are all very basic. If this goes up at the marketplace in this state, 9 times out of 10 people won't read the description that you can adjust the scale and do all these cool things.

My recommendations:

1.) When you're ready to sell it, create images that show what you can do with the items. You can put them all in the same pictures of course, but you need an individual that says BEFORE & AFTER. Show the buyers that they can do stuff with it which will make it infinitely more useful. Better yet, do a quick 30 second video to show the features.

2.) Put a reflection map or environmental map on the textures of the glass and the water. It is much too flat and makes the model look amateur, when it's actually really nicely done.

3.) Change the texture of the wood to something a bit more realistic, with better coloring. Play with the lighting to make the props look really amazing. Appearance is everything in 3D and if you can't make a good first impression, they won't be advertising it on the marketplace.

4.) Consider putting the props within the context of an environment. If it looks good in the picture, then people will be sold to buy your props.

I hope that helps and good luck on your venture.
