If Miroku's that desperate with the sadness of losing Sango, why didn't he at least try to answer, "Where do the lies end and the love begin?! Tell me, Miroku! Because I honestly can't tell anymore! I'm starting to wonder if I ever could..." with something along the lines of this:

"Sango, I...I understand what you're saying. You want me to be honest with you, you want me to stop scamming people, and you want me to stop flirting around...well...if...if that's what you want...then...then now. Starting now, it...it's all over. I'll no longer lie to you, I'll no longer scam people for money, food, room, and board, and...and...and I'll never look at another...pretty girl again....I promise," Gathering himself in regards to this massive promise made, he looked up to see Sango smiling at him as he felt a wash of relief that he had won one more chance.

"I appreciate all that, Miroku," Sango answered, "I appreciate that you're willing to give it all up for me..." Then Miroku frowned at Sango's sudden returning scowl, "...or at least I would if there had been no hesitation in that promise! Miroku, if you were sincere, I might be inclined to believe you, but I'm no fool. Again, I've heard so many of your lies and false promises. Besides, I don't believe a bad habit goes away overnight," Giving Miroku a sad look, Sango finished, "I'm sorry Miroku, but I don't believe you. I honestly wish I did, Miroku...but I don't."
