Okay, I admit it. I haven't been keeping up with comic books the way I used to. Financial issues, time issues, lack of mobility, that sort of thing hits you. You know what I'm saying? And sometimes, I prefer the animated adaptations to the stuff they put out these days. It really makes me long for the days when Stan Lee, Steve Dikto, and Jack Kirby were manning the helm at Marvel.

Still, when I heard that Spider-Man had basically been killed, with Dr. Octopus taking over his body with Peter Parker being left to die in the not-so-good doctor's body, I was more than a might perturbed. Granted, the odds of someone, let alone Peter Parker, staying dead in the world of comic books was basically next to zilch, and it's not like it would be the first time he had been killed. Still, I grated at the idea of one of the most depraved, arrogant, and vile villains of them all being basically given a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free pass, along with a new, superpowerful body at his command to do with as he pleased. Even if it seemed that all he wanted now was to show up Peter by being a Superior Spider-Man. It's...it's wrong, that's what it is. It's sick, disgusting, revolting, and I would be nauseated at the prospect of having to pen such a loathsome story.

And now, with Superior Spider-Man #9, in which Slott makes it clear that he wants Otto Octavious to be Spider-Man for keeps, I feel like I want to throw up.

Spider-Man has always been one of my childhood heroes. I grew up on him, watching his exploits on TV and reading the comic books. I even pick up novelizations when I have the chance. And now Dan Slott has taken that hero and replaced him with a vile monstrosity, saying that he wanted a 'darker' Spider-Man.

Paging Mr. Slott. A darker Spider-Man doesn't work. It's been tried. And it's always failed. Badly.

I've read the reviews and checked out what I can. And basically, all it looks like to me is that Dan Slott is using his time in the sun to bash Peter Parker with everything he's worth, and portray Dr. Octopus, a malicious, cruel, vindictive monstrosity with who knows just how much blood on his hands as a better hero and role model.

Dan Slott, you suck so badly I can't even begin to say how much you suck. And while you may be enjoying the additional readership your sick, twisted brainchild is enjoying right now, I honestly believe that it won't be enjoying it for much longer. Especially with all the death threats you've been getting.

Seriously, you have Stan "The Man" Lee calling you out for your idiocy. Get with the program already.

Sheesh...there are days when I'd be willing to wager that I could write circles around people like Slott while wearing a blindfold and with one arm tied behind my back...

For those of you interested, there's a petition being signed by those who want Peter Parker once again in the Red, Web, and Blue. So here's the link if you wish to sign it. www.change.org/petitions/marve…
